A lifelong resident of Norman, Jonathan Fowler grew up around automobiles and art. He began his career in the auto industry at age six by delivering mail at his grandfather’s Toyota store and now represents the third generation in his family to lead a dealership.
In January, Jonathan was named vice president of operations for Fowler Holding Co. where he oversees marketing, community relations, social media and digital strategy for the company’s seven car dealerships in Norman, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Denver. Jonathan is also founder and producer of the VDub Sessions and is a graduate of the NADA's Dealer Academy.
Jonathan has a strong passion for the arts, which began early in life at Firehouse Arts Center and Music School and continued with music and drama through high school. As a film minor at the University of Oklahoma, Jonathan received the Ned Hockman Prize in Filmmaking. His experience and love for the arts culminated in 2008 when he played a lead role in creating the Norman Music Festival, an indie music festival in the heart of downtown Norman that now attracts 50,000 people every year. For Jonathan’s role in organizing the festival and securing his business as the founding sponsor, the Norman Arts Council named Fowler Auto Group the 2008 Business of the Year in the Arts.
Since opening Fowler Volkswagen in 2010, Jonathan’s mission for the dealership has been to sponsor, promote and even create new efforts that build Oklahoma’s creative momentum. Those efforts included creating the award-winning VDub Sessions video series featuring Oklahoma’s best local musicians and artists; creating a free annual holiday album and concert featuring local musicians; creating a free annual holiday album and concert featuring local musicians; establishing the Norman Arts Council’s Arts in Education Award honoring local teachers; sponsoring the Oklahoma Film and Music Commission’s SXSW Buffalo Lounge; and being the presenting sponsor of Oklahoma City’s Plaza District, the Norman Music Festival, Dustbowl Arts Market, OKC Comedy, Block Party OKC, The SPY FM, and a free concert series at The Opolis. This led to Jonathan being named Business Person in the Arts for 2012 by the Norman Arts Council and Norman's Next 40 Under 40 in 2012 and 2013.
Since arriving to Fowler Holding Co. Jonathan has continued his community outreach efforts. Fowler Toyota of Norman has become presenting sponsor of H&8th Food Truck Market in the Federal Plaza in downtown Oklahoma City, allowing them to expand programming and bring more people to this burgeoning district. In addition, he has worked with the family’s Toyota store in Tulsa to create Fowler Fitness on the Green at Guthrie Green as well as the Blue Dome Music Series.
Jonathan’s involvement in the arts also includes serving as a board member for the Norman Music Festival, Norman Arts Council, Norman Public Arts Board and Norman Music Alliance. He is a graduate of Leadership Norman and lives near the University of Oklahoma campus with his wife, also a Casady graduate, Natalie Brown Fowler '02.
