Susan D. Russell-Stewart '66

Director of Services for Logan County, Family Builders
Oklahoma City, OK

Susan Russell-Stewart is on the staff of Family Builders, Oklahoma City, as director of services for Logan County, where she runs the batterers intervention and child abuse prevention programs. She also provides parenting courses at Palomar: Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center.
Ms. Russell-Stewart works with several other community programs, several of which she co-founded or restarted, including the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, the Coordinated Community Response Team of Logan County, Palomar, and the Oklahoma Prevention Leadership Committee, which she chairs. Ms. Russell-Stewart served on the committees that established Leadership Midwest City and Leadership Oklahoma.

In 2015, Ms. Russell-Stewart and her colleagues at Family Builders received the Oklahoma Child Abuse Prevention Program of the Year Award from the Oklahoma State Department of Health. She regularly renews her professional qualifications, including her certification as a Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Professional.

Ms. Russell-Stewart has received commendations from the Oklahoma National Guard and the United States Navy for her contributions to their sexual assault awareness training programs. She has been recognized for her work with Project Heartland, following the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, and her services to Odyssey Hospice and the Asia Society of Oklahoma.

Ms. Russell-Stewart is married to Roger Stewart. She is a member of All Souls' Episcopal Church and has attended a Bible Study with Promised Land Bible Institute for more than 25 years. For 12 years she was a speaker for Stonecroft Ministries, addressing groups throughout the Southwest and Midwest, and she was a co- founder of the Petra Retreat Center in Ohio City, CO.

After graduating from Casady in 1966, Ms. Russell-Stewart received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and sociology from the University of Oklahoma and her master’s degree, also from OU, in education.
